Where to Find Outdoor Workouts in Philly This Spring and Summer

Now that the weather’s finally warming up, it’s the perfect time to exercise in the open air.

Rising temperatures and later sunsets are the perfect ingredients for outdoor workouts. (Talk about that serotonin boost!) That’s why we’ve compiled a list of local outdoor fitness classes — ranging from bootcamp to yoga — to help you pack your spring and summer with group workouts. We’ll keep updating it as more outdoor workouts are announced!

Alchemy X

This season, Alchemy X and the Navy Yard have partnered to bring you free mat Pilates and yoga from 5:30-6:30 p.m. every Wednesday. Sessions take place at the Navy Yard’s League Island Park, and you can register here.

Benny Bridge Crew

This running group meets at the east side of City Hall at 6:05 a.m. every Monday morning, rain or shine, for a run across the Benjamin Franklin Bridge. It’s free with no sign-up necessary. Follow their Instagram for the latest.

Be Well Philly Yoga Flow

You’re hearing it here first: Our summer yoga series is making an epic comeback this July! More details to come, but expect all-levels yoga every Wednesday evening in July, starting July 9th, on the roof of Lotus, Philly’s soon-t0-open residential and social community. Stay tuned for additional info!

Body Rock Bootcamp

This West Philly gym offers near-daily ways to exercise outside. At the Schuylkill Banks under the Walnut Street bridge, there’s outdoor bootcamp on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at 6 a.m., as well as on Mondays and Thursdays at 7 p.m. Check the schedule for registration information and for the latest on the classes.

Center City Fit at Dilworth Park

All-levels fitness classes have returned to Dilworth Park, thanks to presenting sponsor Rothman Orthopaedics. Expect free Zumba classes every Tuesday night through October 7th. No pre-registration is required; see the schedule for the latest information.

Chasing Trail

A year-round run club, Chasing Trail hosts all-paces-welcome group runs through Wissahickon Valley Park at 8:30 a.m. every Sunday. Meet at Valley Green Inn!

Citywide Athletics

There’s no designated class leader at this roving pop-up fitness class. Instead, different members facilitate the class each week, allowing for plenty of variety in the types of workouts. Classes occur at different outdoor spaces throughout the city on Thursdays at 6:45 a.m, with locations announced on Instagram a few days prior.

Core Fitness

This fitness group offers outdoor bootcamp classes on the Art Museum steps on multiple mornings throughout the week. Workouts consist of body-weight exercises like squats, planks and push-ups, in addition to challenges that make use of the surrounding area. Check the schedule for dates and times, plus how to sign up.

Fairmount Park Conservancy

On the second Sunday of each month, Fairmount Park Conservancy will host free, 60-minute yoga led by instructors from Tula Yoga & Wellness. Sessions are held near the Fairmount Park Tennis Courts at the intersection of North 33rd Street and Dauphin Drive, and begin at 10 a.m.

Get In Lon Fitness

Join trainer Lonnie Perry for outdoor bootcamps that are suitable for all fitness levels. Classes take place at 6 a.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays in Clark Park, as well as at 10 a.m. on Saturdays at the Art Museum.

Goals Fit

Manayunk-based Goals Fit runs outdoor bootcamps throughout the week near the studio, as well as at the tracks at Roxborough High School and Plymouth Whitemarsh High School. They also offer several outdoor running programs for pace pushers, marathon trainers, and teenage girls.

Hike + Heal

Hike + Heal is a local collective for women and woman-identifying individuals meant to support overall wellness. Become a hive member for access to their regularly scheduled hikes, and check their other offerings here.

Homewerk Fitness

With Homewerk Fitness, enjoy “ParkFit,” a 60-minute strength and conditioning workout with kettlebells, bands and your body weight every Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. Classes take place outside of Parktowne Place Apartments. Hummingbird Yoga

Hummingbird Yoga offers outdoor yoga at Linwood Park in Ardmore from May through September. You can catch class at 5:30 p.m. on Mondays and Thursdays, as well as at 7 a.m. on Wednesdays and Fridays. There is a $15 suggested donation.

KG Strong

This South Philly gym is bringing its yoga classes back to Bok’s breezy rooftop. The 60-minute classes take place at 6 p.m. on the second and fourth Tuesdays of the month, from May through September. Plus, each flow supports a different local nonprofit. Register here.

Lumos Yoga & Barre

Lumos Yoga & Barre’s all-levels outdoor yoga classes at Corinthian Gardens have resumed for another year. Practice runs 6 to 7 p.m. on Tuesdays and 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Sundays. More info and registration here.

Monarch Yoga

This season, there are plenty of ways to flow with Monarch Yoga outdoors. They’re hosting yoga classes on the roof deck of their building multiple times per week, plus recurring pop-ups at Sculpture Courtyard, Parks On Tap’s rotating locations, Mural City Cellars’ garden, and more. Last July, Monarch took over the Yoga on the Banks program (below).

Mural Miles

Every month, Mural Miles leads free group runs that highlight Philly’s amazing street art. Expect to run about five miles, and see five or six murals along the way. Follow Mural Miles’ Instagram for upcoming location and date details.

Muse Yoga & Fitness

Head to Muse Yoga & Fitness for yoga on the rooftop of their Francisville studio. Classes are offered on various days and times this summer, so keep an eye on their Instagram for the latest.

November Project Philadelphia

This volunteer-run, 6:25 a.m. morning workout consists of running-based circuit training and body-weight exercises. Classes are free and take place on Wednesdays at the Art Museum steps and at a rotating outdoor location on Fridays. Follow on Instagram for the latest updates and class location information.

Philly Acro

The local acrobatics brand is running their Acro Jams throughout the summer. The outdoor events will see you trying acrobatics, aerial, pole dancing, and high-lining (executing movement about 30 feet above ground). Peep their Instagram for dates and details.

Philly Girls Who Walk

This walking group is for women and woman-identifying individuals who are looking to get outside and meet new people. The walks happen on a weekly basis and leave from various locations in the city. Follow the group’s Instagram to stay in-the-know.

Philly River Flow Yoga

Join this local yoga group for Vinyasa flows on the Schuylkill Banks every Tuesday and Thursday at 6 p.m. or Saturday and Sunday at 10 a.m. Registration is required, and donations are welcomed.

Pickled Collie Farm

Head to this South Jersey farm for goat yoga (!) throughout the summer. Sessions consist of a 30-minute practice while the goats prance around, followed by 30 minutes of playtime. Join in for $30 on Wednesdays at 6 p.m. and Saturdays at 9 a.m.

Riverfront North

The group behind the 11-mile recreational trail that runs through Northeast Philly is hosting a variety of outdoor workouts in collaboration with Violet Vine Yoga and Roots2Rise (the latter for yoga on the pier). Find all details here.

Stonewall Sports Philly

In addition to rec sports leagues, Stonewall Sports Philly hosts outdoor yoga classes and a running group, both on Saturday mornings. Check their yoga class schedule and running group schedule for the latest.

Stratus Rooftop Lounge

This year, Hotel Monaco’s rooftop hot spot launched a summer wellness series featuring guided yoga, Reiki, and sound-bath classes. A slow flow / yin yoga practice combined with sound bath will take place at 7:30 p.m. on June 24th, July 15th, and August 12th ($50; tickets here). There’ll also be all-levels yoga at 9 a.m. on June 14th, July 12th, August 9th, and September 13th ($25; tickets here).

Summer Series at Drexel Square

Every summer, Drexel Square (located behind 30th Street Station) typically hosts fitness classes led by Philly-area instructors. This year’s schedule has yet to be released, but be sure to check here for updates.

Tailored Training Narberth

This Narberth studio holds fitness classes on Saturday mornings in Sabine Park. Expect an all-levels cardio and strength training sesh starting at 9 a.m. Registration details can be found here.

Three Queens Yoga

Three Queens Yoga will return to Race Street Pier this summer for yoga. Class days and times haven’t been announced yet, but we will provide an update once they are!

Yoga Home

Conshohocken studio Yoga Home has already kicked off their outdoor classes. Get your flow on at 6 p.m. on Wednesdays at Mary Wood Park (130 East 5th Avenue) and at 9 a.m. on Saturdays at Sutcliffe Park (900 Freedley Street). Visit their website to sign up.

Yoga on Schuylkill Banks

The favorite warm-weather tradition that is yoga at Schuylkill Banks by the Walnut Street bridge has returned. Led by Monarch Yoga (above), these $5 classes occur at 6 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays, as well as at 8:30 a.m. on Saturdays and Sundays, through September. Register for a class here.

Yoga with Teagan Schweitzer

Philly-based yoga teacher Teagan Schweitzer hosts yoga classes in Rittenhouse Square every Tuesday from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. No sign-up needed. Keep an eye on Schweitzer’s Instagram for updates.
